ദോഹ: ഖത്തറിലേക്ക് അനധികൃതമായി കടത്താന് ശ്രമിച്ച പുകയില ശേഖരം ഓള്ഡ് ദോഹ പോര്ട്ട്, നോര്ത്തേണ് പോര്ട്ട്സ് കസ്റ്റംസ് പിടികൂടി. കസ്റ്റംസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര് ദോഹാ പോര്ട്ടില് നടത്തിയ പരിശോധനയിലാണ് വന്തോതിലുള്ള പുകയിലയും സിഗരറ്റും പിടികൂടിയത്. 1,650 കിലോഗ്രാം പുകയിലയും 22,005 പാക്കറ്റ് സിഗരറ്റുകളുമാണ് പിടിച്ചെടുത്തതെന്ന് ജനറല് അതോറിറ്റി ഓഫ് കസ്റ്റംസ് അറിയിച്ചു.
തുറമുഖങ്ങളുടെ മേലുള്ള നിയന്ത്രണം ശക്തമാക്കുന്നതിനും കസ്റ്റംസ് നികുതി വെട്ടിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങള് തടയുന്നതിനുമായി ‘ജനറല് അതോറിറ്റി ഓഫ് കസ്റ്റംസ്’ നടത്തുന്ന പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായായിരുന്നു പരിശോധന. തുറമുഖത്തെത്തിയ ഒരു ചരക്ക് കപ്പലില് സംശയം തോന്നിയതിനെത്തുടര്ന്ന് കസ്റ്റംസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര് വിശദമായി നടത്തിയ പരിശോധനയില് കപ്പലിന്റെ താഴത്തെ അറകളില് ഒളിപ്പിച്ച നിലയിലായിരുന്നു നിരോധിത വസ്തുക്കള് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.
രാജ്യത്ത് നിലവിലുള്ള കസ്റ്റംസ് നിയമങ്ങളും ചട്ടങ്ങളും ലംഘിച്ച് നികുതി വെട്ടിക്കാനുള്ള ഉദ്ദേശ്യത്തോടെയായിരുന്നു പുകയില ഉല്പ്പന്നങ്ങള് എത്തിച്ചത്.

The Customs Department of the Old Doha Port and Northern Ports thwarted an attempt to smuggle large quantities of tobacco and snuff, as part of the General Authority of Customs’ efforts to enhance control over maritime ports and counter customs evasion attempts. The seizure came after suspicion arose regarding a maritime transport vessel arriving at Doha port, which customs inspectors subjected to a thorough inspection that resulted in the discovery of the contraband hidden inside lower storage compartments on the ship. The General Authority of Customs explained that the seizures included 1,650 kilograms of tobacco and 22,005 packs of cigarettes, which were hidden with the intention of evading customs duties, in clear violation of the customs laws and regulations in force in the country
